| Frost & Sullivan European Awards Sarian Systems With Product Innovation
of the Year |
27th June 2008 |
|
 |
The 2008 Frost & Sullivan European Product Innovation of the Year Award
in the field of high speed wireless enterprise routers goes to UK-based
Sarian Systems, Ltd. in appreciation of its "HR series routers". The
addition of High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) capability to its
routers further enhances uplink data rates thereby allowing it to offer
high uplink and downlink data rates greater than previously employed
mobile networks. Through these routers, Sarian can help companies carry
mission critical application on par with fixed-line networks.
Wireless routers that can provide high speed communications is a growing
interest in the enterprise and business sectors. Wireless routes have
certainly helped companies extend their fixed line capabilities and also
have served to be useful back up connections during the fixed-line
connection crisis. However, there is always a quality concern when
looking at wireless solutions for such enterprise and business
applications. High speed connections are vital for companies dealing
with media rich content or that require larger volumes of data and
instantaneous data transmission.

| Sarian launch an HSUPA option for high speed wireless uplink applications |
29th October 2007 |
|
 |
HSDPA has been deployed in 92 countries by over 132 network operators in the last year alone and has made a real difference in the business world with its ADSL rivaling downlink speeds. It's big appeal has been immediate high speed data links at remote locations, in addition to ADSL backup and even or for the purposes of mobile CCTV surveillance.
High speed uplink packet access (HSUPA), is the latest of the HSPA networks which has the potential to up the ante even further. HSUPA marks a significant progression from the HSDPA in that it substantially improves uplink data transfer rates. For example, an enterprise-class router can theoretically provide organisations with up to 7.2Mbps downlink via HSDPA, but only 384Kbps uplink (though this is still much higher than anything previously available) – HSUPA will raise this to 2.0Mbps uplink.
In practical terms this has significant implications in an office or retail environment, HSDPA is able to offer broadband-like connectivity for a limited number of users from a single router. With HSUPA on the other hand, its superior latency and uplink speeds make it possible for firms of 100 users or more to achieve the same high speed connectivity, all from a single router, even if the company is using it for both voice and data communications. As a business continuity strategy then, HSUPA is extremely cost-effective, given that for a substantial number of firms, just one router and one SIM card will be required in order to back-up the entire company in the event of a communications crisis.
Wireless CCTV surveillance applications will see levels of video quality never before available using mobile technology, and acting as a genuine crime deterrent. Tthe improved uplink speeds enable seamless real-time video streaming of a high enough quality that it can actually be used as evidence in a court of law. In addition it will be possible to connect multiple cameras to a single router and achieve 360-degree coverage of the same high standard which is perfect for lamppost deployments.

| Sarian HSDPA routers chosen by Watchman Traffic for Automatic Number Plate Recognition trial |
25th September 2007 |
|
 |
Watchman Traffic are one of the UK's foremost providers of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) 'Traffic Calming Solutions'. Their solutions are used by an increasing number of Government and Police forces in the UK and overseas.
Watchman recently trialled Sarian products in a Spanish 'speed over distance' project involving their camera system on either side of a busy tunnel. The cameras record the number plate and time stamp every car travelling into the tunnel and repeat the process when the car leaves the tunnel. This is then transmitted securely via HSDPA enabled Sarian routers to Watchman's HQ in the UK where they are able to calculate which vehicles have exceeded an average of 80kph (the legal speed limit) between the two points. This information provides the Spanish authorities with the evidence to prosecute those guilty of speeding without the requirement for using their police force to carry the out the same task at much greater expense.
"Sarian is Watchman's product of choice due to their ability to seamlessly switch between GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA, while providing the high level of security required by government applications" Alex Eadington, Research & Development Support Manager.

| GSA report highlights HSDPA as one of the fastest growing global networks...ever! |
16th August 2007 |
|
 |
It's been only one year since Sarian launched the worlds first fully integrated HSDPA router, the HR4110. In that time we're delighted to see that the world’s network providers have embraced this important technology in the same way that we have at Sarian.
The latest GSA report indicates that HSDPA is enabled on almost 75% of existing 3G/WCDMA networks. A grand total of 128 networks in 63 countries have been deployed worldwide so far and the progress doesn't stop there. A further 50 network deployments planned in a total of 80 countries giving almost 180 HSDPA networks globally!
It is unlikely that the growth will stop there given that 12 months ago only 42 HSDPA networks were operational VS today's 128 so watch this space...

| Sarian HR4110 nominated for 'Networking Product of The Year' |
9th July 2007 |
|
 |
Sarian are delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for the 2007 CNET Networks UK Business Technology Awards. One of just five finalists in the category of ‘networking product of the year’ – only two of which are from the UK – Sarian has been nominated for the groundbreaking HR4110, which enables businesses to access the internet at broadband-like speeds over a mobile network. | What is DUAL APN and how can I benefit from it? |
5th July 2007 |
|
 |
An APN (Access Point Name) identifies an external network that is accessible via a wireless router, for example ‘The Internet’.
Certain Sarian routers* support dual APN. This enables customers to be connected to two external networks at the same time. For example, you could be wirelessly connected to The Internet through one APN, while simultaneously connected to a private network connected to your central office.
This unique feature effectively splits the GPRS or EDGE signal in two, meaning that you don't need to drop a critical connection to one APN to access another. In practice this like having two routers in one using a signal SIM card.
* Dual APN is supported by all GPRS and EDGE Sarian products. (Dual APN isn’t currently available with 3G or HSDPA products) |

| Sarian signs multi-million pound contract with systems integrator Fujitsu |
11th June 2007 |
|
 |
Sarian are delighted to announce a contract with Fujitsu Services worth almost five million pounds to provide its new combined wired/wireless routers for UK business continuity deployments. The deal, which includes a significant government infrastructure project in the UK, will see Sarian provide Fujitsu with 13,000 DR6410 routers – part of its recently launched 6000 Series, which offer ADSL broadband provision and monitoring with high-speed mobile backup.
With more and more organisations now using broadband for all critical communications, it’s vital that companies such as Fujitsu are able to provide end-users with reliable business continuity solutions, safeguarding day-to-day operations in the event of fixed-line failure. Fujitsu therefore required a product that would not only offer high-speed broadband service delivery and support future ADSL updates, but that would also provide a viable, cost-effective backup option, should any problems occur.
Sarian’s DR6410 has the ability to automatically detect broadband service issues and seamlessly switch over to HSDPA or 3G networks in the event of a failure. This ensures that end-users’ communications services continue uninterrupted, while the speed and latency of HSDPA mean that there is no noticeable impact on quality of service. Furthermore, the DR6410 contains dual SIM card slots, giving end-users the ability to use two independent mobile networks as backup, providing additional peace of mind.
“Sarian fought off the stiff competition for this contract thanks to the flexibility and reliability of the DR6410,” said Tim Carter, contracts manager at Fujitsu. “Thanks to Sarian, we can now provide our end-users with multiple primary and backup options for service delivery, leaving them safe in the knowledge that their business-critical communications will not be compromised by network downtime.”
“HSDPA for the first time offers a genuine mobile alternative to fixed-line broadband, and it’s great to see companies like Fujitsu harnessing this potential in order to solve business continuity issues for organisations nationwide,” said Andy Hood, managing director at Sarian. “Having been one of the first companies to develop a product designed for enterprise use of HSDPA, the major rollouts we’re now witnessing add strength to our conviction that HSDPA is best-placed to win the battle of the emerging wireless technologies.”

| Are you gambling with your business by relying on ADSL? |
24th May 2007 |
|
 |
A recent article on thinkbroadband.com by Sebastien Lahtinen highlighted a legal case where a firm of mortgage advisers took BT to court for a breaching their contract after 10 days of no internet access. As a result, huge financial losses were incurred due to thousands of home owners across London being unable to complete mortgage applications.
The source of the problem was found to be due to their ADSL line being accidentally cut by BT engineers. The company are now reconnected to their broadband and trying to pursue compensation for the costs they incurred while their internet connection was down.
Sarian's latest high speed wireless products can be used in many applications including broadband backup whereby a product such as the HR4110 is simply connected via Ethernet cable to the existing ADSL router. Sarian's patented VRRP+ then constantly checks the status of the network and seamlessly takes over using its wireless network in the event of ADSL failure. Customers also have the choice of purchasing a combination product such as the DR6000 Series which provides the latest ADSL and high speed wireless connectivity all in one box.
Sarian products provide a proven preventative measure against the huge inconvenience and expense experienced in cases such as these. We would encourage businesses to read the full article and answer the main question it asks: "If your business was without broadband for a week, how much would it cost you?" | REMOTEMANAGERjust got better and now starts from as little as £500 |
11th May 2007 |
|
 |
Sarian's REMOTEMANAGER software has recently come down in price by as much as 50%. We have also introduced a new entry level version 'REMOTEMANAGER ULTRA Lite for customers with up to 100 sites starting at just £500.
REMOTEMANAGER also has a new great feature: 'No touch configuration' of remote units...
the human element associated with large customer deployments has now been drastically reduced:
Sarian units were previously configured by customers themselves using Flashwriter and by populating a bespoke Access database. RM now takes care of everything: The units are delivered to the customer with a standard ‘Gold Build’. The site engineer then simply turns each unit on and RM configures the site specific parameters automatically. In the event of router failure, RM also recognises and configures the replacement unit immediately.

| Sarian forms strategic retail partnerships in the UK with Mobius Networks and Secure Retail |
8th May 2007 |
|
 |
Sarian are delighted to announced a strategic partnership with data SIM airtime provider Mobius Networks and retail solutions provider Secure Retail, aimed at giving retail organisations reliable, secure solutions for all their critical communications.
Secure Retail can now provide Sarian’s 6000 Series ADSL/wireless router equipped with a Vodafone GPRS/HSDPA data SIM card from Mobius, enabling retailers to pick and choose their own broadband provider, with the added security of high-speed wireless backup in the event of any fixed-line failure. As a certified Sarian partner, Secure Retail can also preconfigure 6000 Series routers to meet individual retailers’ specific requirements, enabling companies to take full advantage of the routers’ features. Secure Retail will also offer ongoing technical support for all end-users.
Following BT’s decision to withdraw its ISDN Business Highway service, ADSL broadband is now the preferred method for delivering payment transactions, however many retailers have voiced concerns over the need for a viable business continuity strategy, should the broadband connection fail. HSDPA for the first time gives these organisations a wireless technology capable of matching broadband for speed, latency and reliability. Furthermore, as Vodafone’s preferred data airtime reseller, Mobius SIM cards achieve the industry’s highest quality of service (BS EN ISO 9001 2000) combined with the high security of a Private Mobile Network protected by Deep Packet Inspection, unique usernames and passwords and no exposure to the public Internet.
“In a retail environment, the ability to maintain transactions is the most critical part of the business – without this, companies may as well shut up shop and go home until the problem is solved, something that’s not likely to resonate well with customers,” said Duncan Ellison, sales and marketing director, Sarian. “By partnering with Secure Retail and Mobius, we’re now able to provide the most secure and reliable wired/wireless retail communications package available, without forcing retailers to sign up with BT or any other single broadband provider.” For further information please contact Secure Retail on 01530 511150 or e-mail enq@secure-retail.co.uk. |

| DR6000 Series launched - The fastest broadband and wireless networks available in a single box |
28th February 2007 |
|

|
|
The DR6000 comes with 4 Ethernet ports as standard with the option of 1 (DR6410), 2 (DR6420) or 6 (DR6460) Serial ports depending on your compatibility requirements.
The router also supports modular backup network add-ons including PSTN or ISDN and/or EDGE or HSDPA wireless networks. The combination of the latest ADSL networks with seamless backup to HSDPA provides a very compelling proposition. In practice, broadband failure is barely noticeable to end users thanks to instant wireless failover with comparable data transfer speeds.
Like all Sarian products, the DR6000 Series can also be used in conjunction with Sarian's REMOTEMANAGER software package which supports a wide range of management tools including SLA reporting which can be used to police agreements with network providers.

| Introducing Sarian's Patented VRRP+ (Logical Network Connection Detection) |
2nd February 2007 |
|
 |
Sarian is delighted to announce that it's development work on VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) has been awarded with a patent for its significant benefits over the industry standard version.
The concept of VRRP is that of backing up a ‘master’ router with a second router which constantly monitors the hardware status of the 'master' and takes over when it detects failure. (NB Both routers must be VRRP compatible)
Sarian's VRRP+ takes this a stage further by actively monitoring the ability of the master router to connect with the host itself, therefore looking beyond the hardware for a logical connection (not just a physical one). VRRP+ adds to Sarian’s ever strengthening routing proposition.
