File List

When new software is sent to you or downloaded from our web site, it will usually consist of a zip file containing any or all of the following files:

SnnnnBMO.dwn - main executable version n.nnn, rename it to 'image' before uploading to the Sarian.

S = Series: K=Kendin Hub Unit(2410,2420), R=Routerplexor (2140), N=Angel (MR2110), T=TA Unit (IM2040), 6 = MW3520

nnnn = Version Number: nnnn (i.e. 4356 is version 4.356)

B = Build Type:
w=GPRS, S=Standard, A=Analogue Modem

M = GPRS Module type:
M=Motorola, S=Siemens, O=sOny. (Ignore 'M' for none GPRS builds)

x = number of sectors required for image in flash

s2nnnvxM.rom - Bootloader version n.nn

SnnnnBMO.web - web image, this holds all the web pages

config.fac - if provided this is the basic factory configuration, holding the user button in for 5 seconds will overwrite the power-up config with this file and reboot

logcodes.txt - Event priorities and textual expansion of the event codes.

File Locations

The latest firmware for can be found in the following folder:

http://www.sarians.co.uk/firmware/ftp/

Navigate to the sub folder with your model name (e.g. IR2140) and locate the file name of format:

SnnnnB.zip where n.nnn is the firmware version you require. The latest firmware version will always have the highest n.nnn number.

General Update Procedure

Step 1:

Connect to the Sarian unit to be upgraded using a web browser and navigate to the "Firmware Versions" web page located under "Status". Check the current version of the BIOS:

BIOS ARM Sarian Bios Ver 2.02 50MHz B32-M32-F80 MAC:00042d0016f7

In the example above the current version of the BIOS (or boot loader) is 2.02. Next compare this with the version number in the filename of the s2nnnvxM.rom file. For example if you have a file called s203v2M.rom then the new BIOS in the zip file is version 2.03. If the version of BIOS supplied in the zip file is greater than that already loaded into the unit then the BIOS on the unit will require updating. In the example above the BIOS supplied in the zip file is 2.03 and the version already in the unit is 2.02. This means that the BIOS on this unit needs upgrading. Remember this for later and perform step 6 when reached.

NB.

1. Do not upload a new BIOS unless it is necessary.
2. Never downgrade a BIOS.

Step 2:

Connect to the Sarian to be upgraded using an FTP client such as FileZilla, WS-FTP or Internet Explorer. Check for the presence of a "Fall-Back" image with a name other than the file supplied in the zip which is image4.c2. This would be any file of the form imageX.cY where X is a number other than 4 and Y is any number. If such a file exists then use the FTP client to delete it.

Step 3:

Next check for any files with a .web extension. If present delete them using your FTP client.

Step 4:

On your PC rename the SnnnnBMO.dwn file to image.

Step 5:

Using the FTP client, FTP upload all the files EXCEPT the SnnnnBMO.web file including the s2nnnvxM.rom file only if you are upgrading the BIOS (boot loader).

Step 6:

Perform this step ONLY if you are upgrading the BIOS (boot loader) on your unit. If you are not upgrading the bios then skip straight to step 7.

NB Be very careful not to lose power or reset the unit during this procedure or you may render the unit completely inoperable, requiring a factory repair.

Connect to the unit either via telnet or one of the local serial ports and type:

move s2nnnvxM.rom sbios <enter>

where nnn is the version number , i.e. s203vxM.rom

This overwrites the current bios with the new bios file. When complete after a few seconds the Sarian should return 'OK' .

Step 7:

Next ftp upload the SnnnnBMO.web file.

Step 8:

Connect to the unit either via telnet or one of the local serial ports and type:

scan <enter>

The scan command checks that the flash directory and all files are OK. If it returns any CRC errors leave the unit powered on and please contact Sarian Support immediately.

When all is completed and scan checks OK type:

reboot <enter>

to reboot the unit, do NOT physically re-power it.

Step 9:

When the unit has finished rebooting you may log on to the Web interface, browse to Status --> Firmware Versions and check the main image and bootloader software versions have now been updated. You can also check the current version from Telnet/local async port by typing ATI5<enter>.

If you encounter any difficulty during the above process, please contact Sarian Support on 0870 35 000 35 (+44 870 3500035) immediately. If possible, do not remove power from the unit until you are advised to do so by Sarian support staff.
